“If you are more fortunate than others, it’s better to build a longer table than a taller fence.” -Unknown
We all get carried away, browsing the web for hours viewing new things that we believe could improve our life. I hate to break it to you, but that new pair of Lulu lemon leggings will not motivate you to exercise but rather, create even more clutter in your life and a dent in your wallet.
So what are some ways we can be appreciative of the items we already own? Lets explore some ways to feel luxurious even when we are balling on a budget.
1. First thing in the morning, make your bed!
Okay, you’ve heard this over and over, I get it. But it is true that competing small tasks create a trickle effect. You may find it a bit easier to go about your day, knowing you already achieved a small accomplishment. Never in a movie, do you see a messy bed. Why? Because this simple step shows the appearance of an organized, calm life.
2. Paint your nails once a week. Inspired by the holiday colors, I started this around the month of December. Since then, my coworkers often compliment my freshly polished fingers. Our hands help in most tasks we complete throughout the day. Even when feeling stressed, the mere glimpse calms me. I use Red Carpet Manicure gel polish ($10, Ulta.com), along with a UV LED lamp to cure. Even if you only own four colors, that is an easy way to always look put together.

3. Moisturize every day. Its best practice to apply lotion within two minutes of hopping out of the shower to lock in the moisture. Who doesn’t want softer skin? That feels rich to me!
4. Who else gets annoying thinking about what to make for dinner every night for the rest of our life? Aim to make a new meal at least once a week. Not only will this grow your skillset as a home chef, but its a fun way to explore other cultures this world has to offer. Check out new ideas on Pinterest.com.

5. Start a gratitude journal. Even if its only once a day, write down something you are thankful for. Eventually this will broaden the mindset to appreciate all life’s wins. Adjustable temperature control in your home is one of the many things in life we take advantage of.
6. Listen to motivational podcasts to grow your mind. Ever heard the saying that knowledge is power? Those with closed mindsets will never be as optimistic as those who are eager to grow. Finances, leadership, peace of mind, minimalism – just a few ideas to get you started.
Thank you for this. I’ve been thinking a lot about how to get those wonderful feelings of newness, comfort, change while we are all staying so close to home. These are great suggestions. (I’ll put this in my gratitude journal!)
